North Korea crisis: South's leader in plea to avoid war


South Korean President Moon Jae-in has approached his US partner to help keep a war, in the midst of declining strain over the North's atomic risk. 
Mr Moon told the meeting top US military authority that there must be a strategic answer for the emergency. Gen Joseph Dunford said the US need was strategy however he added that it was focused on shielding the South against a conceivable military assault. The North on Monday said any war could "just be transformed into an atomic war". 
Likewise on Monday, China's trade service issued a request forbidding a large number of imports from North Korea, in accordance with extra UN endorses that were declared not long ago.

Gen Dunford, administrator of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said subsequent to meeting Mr Moon that the US looked for a quiet determination to the emergency with the North. 
"Our occupation is to ensure our initiative has an alternative accessible to them," he included, as cited by South Korea's Yonhap news organization. 
"I accept there are two things we are clear around: one, our duty to shield against assault, two, our prerequisite to ensure we have an unequivocal reaction in case of assault." 
The US, he said prior, had "feasible military choices if the strategic and monetary pressurization battle falls flat". 
The general is because of go on to China and Japan. 
The North's news office, KCNA, cautioned on Monday that a contention could be started by "a minor episode". 
"The issue is that if the war happens, it must be transformed into an atomic war," it said.
On Sunday, US National Security Adviser HR McMaster said he didn't think the sides were nearer to war than seven days prior, while CIA Director Mike Pompeo said he saw no insight to propose the sides were on the cusp of an atomic war. 
In the interim, China has flagged it will stop press, press metal and fish imports from North Korea beginning on Tuesday, following the UN determination on sanctions.
