Sierra Leone mudslide kills hundreds as houses are buried

No less than 179 individuals have been slaughtered in a mudslide close Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown, the Red Cross says.

A slope in the Regent region crumbled from the get-go Monday following substantial downpours, leaving many houses canvassed in mud.

A BBC columnist at the scene says many individuals may have been sleeping when the mudslide happened.

Sierra Leone's Vice-President Victor Bockarie Foh said it was "likely that hundreds are lying dead". The aggregate number of setbacks is probably going to rise.

Mr Foh disclosed to Reuters news organization that the catastrophe was "serious to the point that I myself feel broken". He said that the zone was being cordoned off as individuals were being cleared, including many still dreaded caught in their homes.

A representative for the Red Cross, Abubakarr Tarawallie, told the BBC that 179 bodies had been taken to the focal mortuary in Freetown.

Mr Tarawallie said the association's volunteers and staff were engaged with pursuit and safeguard operations and that individuals influenced were in prompt need of safe house and covers.

He included that no less than 100 properties had been submerged and that some had crumpled after an area of Sugar Loaf mountain descended at around 06:00 GMT.

The AFP news organization is revealing that the aggregate loss of life from flooding in the capital has ascended to 312, refering to another Red Cross representative.

Many individuals are probably going to be left destitute after the mudslide.

A Sierra Leonean fiasco administration official, Candy Rogers, said that "more than 2,000 individuals are destitute" because of the mudslide in the Regent territory, AFP reports.

Mr Rogers said that an enormous helpful exertion will be required to manage the consequence of the flooding.
