Sixteen US staff in Cuba hurt in 'acoustic assault'



No less than 16 US government representatives endured manifestations after a conceivable acoustic assault focusing on the US international safe haven in Cuba, the state division says.

A few staff individuals required treatment for their indications, representative Heather Nauert said.

The assaults seemed to have stopped, Ms Nauert included.

Cuba has denied focusing on outside negotiators and said it was researching the claims.

The Associated Press announced that the negotiators' listening ability misfortune could have been connected to sonic gadgets producing unintelligible sound waves that can cause deafness.

"We can affirm that no less than 16 US government workers, individuals from our consulate group, have encountered some sort of indications," Ms Nauert said.

"We consider the circumstance critical," she included.

US consulate staff and no less than one Canadian started to see manifestations before the end of last year.

The casualties, some of whom have been pulled back from Cuba, have been dealt with in the US and by US specialists in Cuba.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has depicted the episode as a "wellbeing assault".

Washington removed two Cuban ambassadors from the US in light of the occurrence.

Washington and Havana just re-set up ties in 2015, after 50 years of threats between the two nations.
